Practicum at Advocates for Children

The University of Maine at Farmington requires Rehabilitation Services majors to do a practicum consisting of 120 hours at an agency that provides helping services. I chose to do my practicum at Advocates for Children (AFC)  where I was able to follow a Parent Educator. I met with a few families once or twice a week and even had the chance to  lead an activity with a young boy. I learned a lot about the services AFC provides and am grateful that I had the opportunity to work at such a great place.

National Technical Honor Society

My senior year in high school, I enrolled in an early childhood class at Lewiston Regional Technical Center (LRTC). Similar to the high school honor society that I received, this one is for LRTC where the class was held. This award is due to my academic achievement in the class.

Lewiston Regional Technical Center-Early Childhood Education Certificate

The Early Childhood Occupations Education class was a very informational, yet hands-on type of class. In this class, we learned about early childhood development as well as techniques to use when teaching young children. Our instructor taught us cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as well as safety tips to use while working with young children. The second page to my certificate shows my instructor's grading of my knowledge of the course.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters was a volunteer mentorship program for children in elementary schools. I visited a young girl, age seven, for an hour every few days. We engaged in conversation, worked on school work, and played a number of games. I visited this girl in third and fourth grade.
