Volunteer Experience

Maine Handicapped Skiing,
Outdoor Recreation

I worked with Maine Handicapped Skiing during the summer of 2008 as a practicum student. I assisted individuals in using adaptive equipment for cycling, kayaking, and canoeing while not impeding on their personal independence. This was my first experience working in the field and it expanded my interest to include working in therapeutic recreation as a possibility.

Animal Refuge League,
Animal Shelter

Westbrook, Maine.

As a part of my Senior Transition Project for Cape Elizabeth High School, I worked for two weeks at a local animal shelter. I spent my time cleaning cages, feeding and watering the animals, and providing affection by playing with them.

Pond Cove Elementary School
Cape Elizabeth, Maine

As another part of my Senior Transition Project at Cape Elizabeth High School, I worked as a teacher's assistant in a first grade classroom. Along with another student, we worked with the children reading stories and creating a play. We helped the children build a set, know their lines, and pick out costumes to wear. It was such a fun experience working with children and seeing how influential we, as older students, were on them.
