Standard 1:
Demonstrates knowledge of the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and
structures of the discipline(s) s/he teachers and can create learning
experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful to
students.
Artifact 1:
Lesson Plan
Description:
In my Practicum Seminar class we practiced writing our own lesson
plans. I have included a copy of a first draft of a lesson plan.
This is
a plan that I created for third graders who are learning about the
1850's.
Rationale:
This artifact shows my ability to plan a lesson that will be meaningful
to the students. It also shows that I have a central concept of
the subject I am teaching.
Artifact 2:
Informal Observation
Description:
During Practicum it is required that all students have an informal
observation while working in a classroom. I have included a copy
of of my initial observation review given by
Johanna Prince. During the observation I was working with a small
group of students on a math lesson.
Rationale:
This shows my ability to work with the students on central concept
ideas in a meaningful way. I understand the major concept of the
discipline I am teaching to the children. It also shows that I
can relate my knowledge of the discipline to the class.

Children's Literacy Write-Up
Description:
In my EDU 388 Literarcy in grades 4-8 class we are required to create a
Children's Literature Binder. Throughout the semseter I read
several childrens and young adult books.
I have also evaluated these books using a guide from Dr. Marcia
Nash. This is a copy of write up about a book on food chains.
The book is
Who Eats What? By Patricia Lauber.
Rationale:
This artifact shows my ability integrate different subject areas into
one particular project. The book that was ready was a science
subject, but it was read during a literacy class. I have made
connections between between the content and other disciplines.

Formal Lesson Plan
Description:
Each student involved with the Practicum Block at the University of
Maine at Farmington is required to have formal observation.
During the observation the student is required to teach a lesson
in the classroom where they have been placed. I have included a
copy of the lesson plan that I created for my formal
observation. The students will be creating their own folktales
and drawing pictures to go along with them.
Rationale:
This proves my ability to create a lesson plan that will help the
students learn. The lesson plan is based on curriculum goals.
The lesson plan is also accomidating to students who need special
help.

ACTEM Certificate
Description:
On October 12, 2007, I attended the ACTEM conference on technology at
the Augusta Civic Center. ACTEM is the Association of Computer
Technology Education in Maine. At the conference
I attended a session on design and also a session on ways for teachers
to use google. Each participant of the conference received a
certificate. I have included this certificate as an artifact.
Rationale:
This artifact shows that I am willing to use technology to help the
students get the best possible use out of their education. It
also proves that I am taking the time to learn as much as I can about
technology. The different sessions that I attended gave a variety of strategies to use with students.

Autism Conference
Description:
In November of 2007 I attended an Autism Conference held at the
University of Maine at Farmington. Prior to the conference I read
the novel
Rules By Cynthia Lord. This is a copy of the cover of
Rules and
a description of of the sessions I attended at the conference.
Cynthia Lord spoke about her experiences as a parent of and child
with Autism and also her experiences as a new writer.
Rationale:
This artifact shows that I am taking the time to learn about the legal
rights that students with disabilities have. I learned about the
rights of students with Autism at the conference. I understand
that the rights of students are very imporant. Attending the
Autism Conference is showing that I willing to learn and grow
professionally.
