Introduction to Disability Studies

I am very proud of this particular assignment. It was one of the first papers I ever wrote as a Rehab major, and is on the list of one of the most difficult papers I've ever had to write. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this paper a 8 because I felt like I was really able to paint a picture of the difficulties I had while I was using the wheelchair.

Service Provider Interview

By doing this assignment, I learned about what I did not want to be a psychology major. Though this was written in a Rehab class, I had thought about declaring my major as Psychology (when I was Undeclared) and during the process of writing this assignment, I knew that Rehab was the right major for me. I also learned about the passion that people have for their profession.

Case Study

I think that others will react to this assignment in a very positive fashion. Many people see individuals with disabilities as not being able to do anything. This individual that I interviewed leads a very productive life, even though she has had many challenges in her past. I am very proud of this paper because I was able to learn so much about this individual and that I was able to come up with really interesting questions so I could learn more about her disability (even though some may not think of it as a disability at all).

Group Process: Human Services

Group Proposal

I went through many struggles while doing this assignment. I found it very difficult to think of a group that would be helpful to people, because I did not know what the need was. I overcame this by thinking about what kind of group I would like to attend, and I thought about it by thinking about previous experiences that I have had and the type of group that I would have wanted to help me through tough times. Even though it took a lot of time to complete, I managed to work through my struggles.

Introduction to Therapeutic Recreation

Adapted Device

This particular piece was difficult for me because it involved making an adaptive device. I am not very good at constructing things, so this was rather difficult for me to do. However, I thought that the paper that had to accompy the device itself was easy for me to complete. I was able to convey my idea in a clear way and also talk about the usefullness of the finished product.

Lance Armstrong Journals

I thought that the finished product met the standards that were set in this class (Introduction to Therapeutic Recreation) for this particular assignment because the assignment called for a lot of thought and hardwork and I felt like I did that. I took the time to summarize each assigned chapter, as well as my reaction to each chapter.

Therapeutic Recreation Video

I learned so many things through making this video. I had never really spent time actually editing footage and for the first time, I actually spent the time sitting at the computer trying to figure out what footage I wanted and what I did not want. There was so much that I did not know about editing, and I learned the ropes slowly but surely. I also learned about time management during the filming and editing process, which I learned about the hardway because editing took way longer than I had thought it would. My knowledge of video filming and editing has expanded because of this project and I hope to pursue this through producing my own videos about trips that I have taken.

Introduction to Counseling and the Helping Relationship

I think that this piece may surprise some people because a lot of people would never think of me as wanting to become a counselor because I am a very quiet, soft-spoken individual. This paper proves that I have skills in the counseling field, because I thought that for my first counseling interview, I felt really comfortable in the helping position.

I am very proud of this particular piece of work because I learned how difficult an intake assesment is. It took a lot of work to gather all of the information and even longer to write up the assessment. However, I did enjoy the process, mostly because I found it to be very interesting and even a little fun.

Interview with a Grantwriter

I was fortunate to have an assignment that I think really helped me in the development of my grant. I am proud of this piece because I was able to obtain a lot of really excellent information regarding the development of a grant, as well as the general process and the do's and don'ts. I found that talking to someone that is close to you also helps, because you can go to them for advice, but it also made the interview a lot of fun to conduct!
