Somalia's Troubles
"The people who know don't care, and the people who care don't know."
Welcome to our site dedicated to
Somalia, many people are unfamiliar with the situation in that
particular country for one reason or another. It is important for us as
members of the international community to understand such problems so
they can be improved.
Since 1991 Somalia has been in a state of civil war and is currently
considered a "failed state". While there have been many attempts by the
UN to establish an effective government, none of them have really had
international support and they are now on their 16th attempt at
government. This time the government has an opportunity to stabilise
the nation and bring relative calm, but needs support from abroad
beyond what has been provided in the past. Problems of piracy, drug use
and smuggling, proliferation of small arms after the collapse of the
old regime, and severe droughts and
floods make the overall situation far worse than it would be otherwise.
Hopefully reading information about the problem and what can be done to
help can convince you to press for change.
