Building Your Community Health Website

The way that information is presented is rapidly changing. In this day and age, the internet has become a main part of many people's lives, especially students. Accordingly, a great way to have our information presented is by making a website. With a simple, user-friendly program such as Nvu, one can create an informational, helpful webpage quite easily. The community health department does a fantastic job of using the world wide web in class and preparing their students for a new age of teaching and learning--using the internet.

Keep it simple.

On your first page, you'll want to include an introduction to what you're doing. You'll want to familiarize your website's visitors with the topic, and have them know right away what it is about.
Include a picture. This will be helpful in catching the reader's attention.
Remember to keep your audience in mind. Will someone with a slow, dialup connection not be able to load a massive picture? Will a visually impaired person be able to read your italic cursive font?
Remember to keep some sort of symmetry to the page. It is easier for a visitor to read, and figure out the flow of the page.
Try to keep some sort of consistency throughout your website. (i.e., fonts, colors, etc.)
Your first page may need to be eye catching, but remember to keep it simple. Keep the fonts readable, and the pictures at a decent size.

You'll definitely want to link to other pages in your website.

You may want to link to other helpful websites as well.

There's no harm in providing links to outside sources, because even though it wasn't authored by you, there are some really helpful links to your subject that will provide viewers with additional information.
Remember to include these in your bibliography and give full credit to the authors of that website.
