Zimbabwe's cholera outbreak

Zimbabwe is a third world country that is going through a really
difficult period right now. There has been an outbreak of Cholera and
it is causing havoc on the country. So far over 16,000 people have been
affected with over 792 dying. It is so hard to control the spread of
the disease further because of the lack of technology and support.

What is Cholera?
It is sometimes called Asiatic or epidemic cholera. It is an infectious
gastroenteritis which is caused by enterotoxin which produce strains of
the bacterium Vibrio cholera. It can be contacted very easily by simply
eating or drinking food contaminated by the disease. It was thought it
could only live in side humans but new research is showing it can live
in aquatic environments.
Some symptoms of the disease are severe diarrhea that if not treated properly could complete dehydrate a person in a few hours.
Treatment can be very complicated and without the proper equipment can
be impossible. One technique that is used is called, "Oral dehydration
therapy". Which is basically refilling your body with clean water and
replacing the lost electrolytes. In many cases a person may need a IV
to help replace the liquids. If treated quickly the mortality rate can
be reduced to under 1% but if left untreated it could rise to over
50%.
On Saturday Zimbabwe accused the west of waging biological warfare on
them. That isn't unlike Zimbabwe because they have blamed the West for
other problems. The country that they are really blaming is Britain and
there reason for that is Britain used to occupy Zimbabwe. The British
government has declined any accusation of there involvement.
