Introduction:
Hello 5th grade class! We are going to be using a web quest
to look into the lives of the passengers of the RMS Titanic. The
School’s News Channel wants to know what really happened on the
ship. Each student will have a different role and will be making
an iMovie where there will be an interview of a survivor.

Task:
Your job will be to keep a journal of events that happened on
the Titanic. You will use your roles on the ship to do
this. Using the different websites, you will also find out what
the layout of the Titanic was and how it affected its voyage.
Using both of these assignments we will create an iMovie of the
interview with a survivor.

Process:
The different roles will be a crew member, an upper class
passenger, and an immigrant who is riding in lower class. Keeping
a journal and writing what your schedule was like on the ship as well
as any interactions you had with other passengers is key for this
presentation. These journals will be used to see how each passenger
dealt with the disaster. The upper class will be able to
provide an account of the social events of the voyage. The crew
members will be able to provide a detailed look at the layout and the
physical aspect of the ship. The immigrants and lower class will
be able to provide a look at the differences of how they were treated
compared to the upper class. The final project will be an iMovie of a
survivor from the Titanic. There will be a panel of interviewers
who have different experiences. Some will be those that dealt
with the crew of the Titanic, some will be those of the upper class,
and the one being interviewed will be an immigrant who came to America
by way of the Titanic.

The following links will give you a look at the passengers and the structure of the Titanic:
http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/
This website gives a brief biography for some of the passengers of the
Titanic. It also includes deck plans and the design of the
ship. This site will work with every role of this project because
it gives accounts of immigrants as well as crew members.
http://www.titanic1.org/
This site includes some articles that are written about the Titanic and
her destruction. These articles are great primary resources
because they are taken from the time the Titanic sunk. There are
some articles about myths of the Titanic that most students would find
interesting and informative.
http://www.pbs.org/lostliners/titanic.html
This site has two articles about the ship and it’s
destruction. One of the articles contains facts about how new
technology has added to our understanding of the Titanic’s
structure.
http://www.titanicstory.com
This site has a lot of perspectives on different issues of the Titanic.
There is a timeline that would help students with their journals and
what went on during the Titanic’s voyage. There are also
great links that are very interesting.
