This unit was designed as a resource for me, a student at the University of Maine at Farmington. I am training to become an elementary school teacher, and this webquest was one of the requirements for me as a practicum stu//100dents. This webquest demonstrates my skills with the following Maine Standards for Initial Teacher Certification through:

Standard 1: Demonstrates knowledge of the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines s/he teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful to students.

Rationale: I believe that this webquest shows that I have the knowledge to teach children about this aspect of the Holocaust. By writing a script, finding sources, and writing a persuasive essay, I have thourougly explored the Holocaust and the events that occured. I made sure that I had examples ready for my classroom so that they would understand what to do. I had to become comfortable with all of the tools that I will make them learn how to use, such as garageband and inspirations. By doing this, I am now comfortable with using and teaching these tools to others, including my students. This unit is very thourough, and by the end, the students will know everything there is to know about the holocaust and the brave people that were a part of this horrific event. Furthermore, I have given the students the tools to be successful in my class. They have research questions that will help guide them in their searching for information, they will be using inspirations to organize their thoughts and to help them write a formal paper, and they will have used garageband to create a podcast, which will be the final project that demonstrates how much they have learned.

Standard 5: Understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies and apporpriate technology to meet students' needs.
Rationale: I believe that this webquest demonstrates this strategy because students will have to use Wikis, and many other programs, such as inspirations and garagaeband to complete the assignment that is given. By doing this and by having everything on a webquest, students will have to become familiar with technology to complete the assignments. This webquest is a tool that will actively involve students and will be a meaningful way for them to learn. It will promote problem solving and collaberation with other people, as students research their work.
