Spinners

This novel is about a young man who falls in love with a young woman.  The young woman’s father told the young man that once he spun her a gold wedding dress they could be wed.  The man was forced to steal a spinning wheel from an old lady who inevitably places a curse on him.  The curse turns the spinner into an old man who can no longer marry this young woman.  The spinner later finds out that the young woman gave birth to his child and died.  Being the daughter of the spinner, the young girl, Saskia, can also spin well.  Once the king learns about her, he wants her to be his personal worker.  The miller (Saskia’s non-biological father) makes the mistake of telling the king that Saskia can spill straw into gold.  Since she cannot, her real father must save her from death.  Saskia and the king are later wed and have their child.  The spinner comes to take what is his, but Saskia cannot give up her baby.  The spinner tells her that if she can guess his name, she can keep her daughter.  When she guesses his name, Rumplestilskin, he freaks out, and his rumpled leg breaks off as he leaves the castle.
